Elementary and middle school students who want to take a course that is at a higher level than their actual grade level must submit documentation and gain VLACS approval. VLACS will review any of the following data that a student shares to determine whether to honor the student's request for a higher level:
- Standardized test scores
- Successfully completed coursework in the content area
- Written confirmation from a school official of a student's level
Families should also understand the requirements of the requested course(s), potentially including monthly meetings, oral quizzes and collaboration projects which could require the student to work with an older student. Further, the student will be held to the same expectations for work and communication as other students in the course.
If a student successfully demonstrates readiness in all of the areas outlined above and requirements are understood, the student will be allowed to enroll in the course. There will be a 28 day grace period once the student begins the course. For more information, please contact firstname.lastname@example.org.
